Thorin Oakenshield: Why did you come back?
Bilbo Baggins: I miss my books, my armchair, and my garden too. This is my place on Earth, my home.

HOME AND GARDEN - INTERMINGLING
The garden was given free rein. The boundaries between it and the house are blurring. It grows as it pleases, inviting whoever it wishes.
Jays, blackbirds, starlings, robins, and nuthatches are born there. Sometimes a woodcock rests on the ground, sometimes ravens chat, a heron or a crane shrieks. A pheasant escapes with a whir, swan wings beat with a whistle, a kingfisher gives a piercing peep.
Slices of wasp nests fall onto the terrace, exploding wisteria pods knock.
In the evening, wild boars open the wooden gates with a crash, and at night a young bat silently flies in through the open windows, failing its first geolocation test, followed by a hornet buzzing like a helicopter echelon.
A strange cat brings a frog into the middle of the living room as thanks for yesterday's treat. A marten gallops loudly across the roof tiles. Snails and mice crawl into wellington boots and vases. Ivy creeps between the doorframes.
Our home in the garden, our garden in our home.
